I have been anticipating this day. Today is Shannan and Arriana's flight
day and they should arrive sometime tonight.
For us, we are taking another family trip to Wailea hoping for calmer
conditions and a nice snorkel trip. Everyone was going to have gear and it was
going to be great. Of course, none of the kids really wanted to snorkel and are
turning into beach and boogie board bums, but we went out with them anyway. We
swam out the left side of the beach, around the peak and into the area known as
Turtle Town or Turtle Cove. I used to be a fabulous dive and snorkel spot
because you could see rows upon rows of turtles nestled into the breaks between
the coral beds, resting. These last few days all we have seen in the odd turtle
surfacing and not the amounts of them that there used to be. This is a trend we
are noticing throughout our snorkel fish. Where we used to see schools, we now
see odd loner fish or groupings. It's disconcerting to realize so many reef
fish are gone. The turtles are protected, so maybe they just got tired of the
boat loads of people showing up at this spot day in and day out and have moved
on up the beach.
The kids road their boards over in a cove of rocks. The lava rock also
made for some great shots of the kids and got their minds wanting to explore a
little deeper. We promised them a few days of exploring now that Shan and Ana
were going to be here and the next 10 days will be more then just beach and
pool.
After the beach, we popped in a movie to watch while we made supper and
cleaned up. My eye kept straying to the clock, my excitement for my friends
almost as fun to experience as my excitement for us when we were on a plane over
the ocean and enroute.
A trip to the pool was needed to cool off, wear out the kids, get daddy's
workout in and pass the time a little faster.
Then it was supper and another movie in. The ones we rented needed to be
back before 10pm and we had one left. Still no phone call, did I give her the
right number? Check the email and no I didn't, I mixed up two digits. Send off
another email and hope she has a way of checking it. Bed time rolls around and
I assume she doesn't. C'est le vie. We will connect tomorrow. I know which
Condo she is staying in and if all else fails, I can try and get a hold of the
owner for the unit number or telephone number. Until then, I'm sure they are
enjoying a quiet night to recharge and get comfy.
Maddie and I have the misfortune to be reading the same book at the same
time...it's a competition over who gets it at the pool or the beach...I've got
time to read and finish it now, so better get to it. Two little girls in blue
by Mary Higgins Clarke is her first foray into this writing style and she seems
as hooked to it as I am.
