That 3:00am alarm is a little annoying. When it went off this morning, I
asked Grant if we had asked how the kids felt about being dragged up a volcano
to see the sun rise. He remembered sightseeing trips his parents dragged him
on as a kid and how boring some of them were. We decided to sleep in today and
discuss how the kids felt about the trip. Good news is they do want to go up to the summit, so we
decided it will be a tomorrow trip.
So off to Kam 3 beach again. Kids have new boogie boards
and snorkels to try out and we were down at the beach by 7:30. The kids rode
the waves for a couple hours while Cam built sand castles.
Then the seven of us embarked on a snorkel adventure. A
couple sea turtles tangs, parrot fishes, wrasse and coral out droppings. Not the
nicest snorkel beach but it definitely got their curiosity up. Bobby got
separated from us coming back in and followed behind a couple of other snorkels
until I went back out to call him in. He came in an awkward rocky stretch
instead of swimming toward me where there was a sandy stretch. He abandoned his
noodle and came out pretty terrified.
He went with Daddy into kahului to the airport to pick up
Carrie and take her out to Lahaina where she starts her new adventure. The kids
and I stayed at the beach for more boogie boarding and sand
castles.
Our stomachs soon told us it was time to head back to the
condo for some lunch, then off to the pool for a swim until daddy got home.
That didn't quite work out as two minutes after arriving Brook lost her
breakfast all over the deck. Pack back up and take the kids back to the condo.
Poor Brook was sick the whole day and evening. She slept and got some much
envied TV time while I sat on the lanai and finished The Pact.
The garden area here is much nicer than the previous
condos we have stayed at here in Maui. Watching the ocean, listening to the
fountain and enjoying the quiet and sun while reading on the lanai, stripped
away the last of the stress and put me fully into holiday mode. It didn't hurt
that there was a steady stream of a warm hawaiian rain to keep me
company.
When daddy got home, the kids and he, minus Brook, all
went to the pool for a couple more hours of swimming, ping pong and foosball.
Beautiful Sunset tonight, so I played around with my camera settings and put to
use some of the fun stuff I learned in my photography course to hopefully get
some nice shots.
Grant made a delicious quinoa and veggie stir fry when he
returned home and we again called it an early night at 8 with the alarm set for
the 3:00 summit trip...
