Happy Birthday to Bobby, Happy Birthday to Bobby, Happy Birthday, Happy
Birthday, Happy Birthday to Bobby!!
10 years old today. Wow, where ha the time gone. Has it really been 10
years since I walked into the hospital to have my baby boy and walked back out
an hour later with him?
It being his birthday days, we always celebrate two days for birthdays, he
got to set the agenda. Of course it was pancakes for breakfast. Then off to
the beach. Today we chose Wailea for a quick jaunt. We got there and realized
the kids had taken their masks out of the beach bag to swim at the pool
Wednesday and therefore had no masks to snorkel with today. Poor Maddie was
upset she wouldn't be able to go out with us.
So Grant and I left them on the beach and went for a little snorkel. As
soon as my mask was on we saw a little lizard fish buried in the sand...another
few feet and a little octopus decided to scotch by and bury himself under a
coral ledge. We continued to swim out towards all the boats that take their
tourists to turtle town. There were excellent reef systems just 5-15 feet from
the surface with a wide variety of fish. We got to turtle town and were
rewarded with a beautiful and huge moray that was laying out on the coral trying
to get something out of a hole. He turned his head up to us and gave us the
gape before checking out his quarry one more time. I couldn't say if he was
successful or not, but he went off to find himself a place to hide. Amazing.
We swam back to shore as the rest of the tour boats showed up, packed up the
kids and headed into Lahaina.
When we were at Black Rock, Bobby saw the para sailers in the air and
decided that is what he wanted to do for his birthday. So Sydney, Brooklyn and
I joined him on a shuttle boat out to the main par assailing boat. Sydney was
pretty nervous about it but decided she wasn't going to miss it. Maddie had no
intentions of joining us and was happy to just stay on shore. Brooklyn and I
went up together for a tandem ride. She stared at the thing like she had done
it a hundred times. She walked up to the sail with me, let her of be clipped on
and didn't seem even slightly nervous! Then the boat was taking off and we
floated into the sky. Wow. What a cool feeling. We had a lot of fun looking
around. Just before they reel you in, they slow the engines and let you float
down the the water and "dip" your toes in. Well, Brooklyns toes got dipped, mom
went for a swim. Then we were in the air again and back on the boat. Bobby and
Sydney were next up. They were both looking pretty worried as they were clipped
to The sail but I knew they would be very happy once they were in the air and I
was right. Brooklyn declared she wanted to parasail every day, Sydney figures
she might need to do this for her birthday too.
We visited the banyan tree and a couple shops along front street before
heading off the Barnes and Noble for a book Bobby wanted and into Kahului for
his birthday cake and supper at Costco. Costco down here has a ice cream bar
that they dip in chocolate, slath in unreal amounts of almonds and then give it to
you. Of course we needed a couple of those too.
We took a picture of the kids in the banyan tree on our last trip in 2006. It was mandatory that we get a new one this year.
A trip to Dan's Green House to play with the birds is always a must on our Lahaina list. Here is Bobby with Prince, a rare McCaw.
By the time we made it home we had tired kids. It was too late for the
pool so the kids tried finding something worth watching onTV while we went over
there for a wifi session. Not too much new in the world, and obviously nothing
good on TV. When we returned to the condo the lights were out, the kids were
all sleeping and it didn't take long for us to decide to join them.
