We woke up this morning at a bright and early time of 6:00. Late compared
to most standards as it was 10 our time. The late evening obviously accounted
for some sleeping in time.
I tried convincing my excited children that the whole plane ride was just a
collective dream and we were really waking up in a Edmonton hotel and would be
heading home shortly. My little Brooklyn wasn't fooled and promptly looked out
the Lanai curtains and pointed out the big beautiful ocean steps away and the
towering palm trees.
It was too early to much and with no groceries we rounded the crew up and headed out for a walk along the beach
. I'm not sure what possessed me to think
we could do that fully clothed and not in bathing suits. The kids did not care
that is was 6:30am. The sun was shining and excitement was high. While we all
examed a sand crab hole and the tracks, little Cam got naked and went splashing
into the waves. Once the other kids stopped laughing, they were all in and
swimming in their clothes!
Groceries were getting high on the to-do list so we headed into Kahului and
checked out the organic market, k-mart, Costco and Safeway. The sign was on at
the Krispy Kreme so we went in expecting the free donut that they used to give
out while they were hot and fresh off the line. Not at this Maui location but
the kids enjoyed watching the machine work and eating a couple original glazed
out of the box. Bobby thought he had died and gone to heaven while Brooklyn and
Sydney declared them almost as good as grandma's.
I can tell I'm not fully relaxed yet as my aggravation started growing with
the shopping. I'm definitely not one for retail therapy and I just wanted to
head home for some relaxing! it didn't help that we finally grabbed
breakfast/lunch at 11:00. A fairly reasonable time but our bodies were still
telling us it felt like 3:00. You think adjusting to daylight saving is bad, try
a four hour jump...
With groceries unloaded and kids in bathing suits we headed to the relaxing
pool. Ah now we have what I was looking for! The sounds of the ocean in the
background, the Hawaiian birds in the fore ground, and water to help take away
the feel of the heat. The pool is so warm that it's like having a cool bath.
Bliss.
A crabby Cam had us heading back to the condo, the kids enjoyed searching for geckos as we walked, where she promptly puked up
her hot dog.
The rest of the evening was spent with her, a very tired and sick little girl. The other kids opened up the lanai and played out in the garden area, exploring the color changing fountain.
A wonderful supper of baked spaghetti was enjoyed on the lanai as the sun
went down. Then off to bed early as we are hoping to catch the sunrise at the
summit tomorrow!
