Day 7 Sept 11

Tuesday Sept 11

The new day brings sunlight and lighter to the kids and a mom with a much better stomach. Breakfast is quick and we are out the door searching for a new micro SD card for my dive mask video cam as we filled the little 4GB one we brought with us.

Today we decided to check out a new beach and section of reef. We drove a few minutes up the road to Ulua Beach and hit the water right away. The snorkeling was amazing. Great rock out croppings and lots of coral. It was about as colorful and perfect as Hawaii gets. As we watched the first sea turtle we saw come over the coral towards us, and the kids and dad swam after him, I noted the position of a second resting turtle. Cam and I tried to keep up with the first turtle, but with her sometimes riding me like a horse and other times between my less roar on my legs, swimming is not the easiest thing to do at any kind of pace. Instead, my attention wandered out to sea where a large Ono or Wahoo was carefully watching us pass. When they kids finished following turtle number 1, I suggested they follow me back to where I saw the second one. Cam and I hovered above him just as he decided it was time to come up for air. He emerged and surfaced about five feet away from us. Cam, who doesn't put her face in the water, was ecstatic to see this creature putting his head out of the water as he gulped in air several times. She loved looked at his shell and when he went back down she continued to call out to him "Come back turtle. Come out come out whereever you are!". And other cute and silly things trying to convince him to come up. Under the water as he was finding a new resting place, a third a turtle swam by us on his merry way. Fabulous.

Back on the beach it was time for burying children and building sad castles. Grant noticed in the five minutes we sat in the sun, he had a new darker tan line already showing on his legs and promptly got back into his shirt before he was as red as the slate pencil urchins we were avoiding in the water. Very smart as the sun was a beating down today! We let the kids play for about half an hour before we figured it was time to get them out of the sun.

A trip to Kahului was decided. We needed some rum for our Mai tai's and it's a good way to waste a couple hours of the hottest part of the day. The Costco cafe also makes these great ice cream bars dipped in a thick rich chocolate and covered with a large amount of almonds. OMG was that heaven and way to large for any one person to happily eat.

Back at the condo, it was time to spend a couple hours at the pool. The kids enjoy that time most off all. It tastes so much better then the ocean and there is no waves. I love the hot tub and the fact it's the only place we get wifi.

Now it's time to mix up some of the Mai tais and enjoy a quiet evening. Tomorrow the alarm is set for the summit. Hopefully we get there this time!
